For Art's Sake Donna Sherman Scholarship for the Arts

The For Art's Sake Donna Sherman Scholarship for the Arts is a scholarship award for a Bromfield senior who exhibits an extraordinary talent and passion for the arts. The scholarship  was established in memory of Donna Sherman by her friends, neighbors and family. Donna who made her home with her husband and three children in Harvard for 30 years, passed away unexpectedly in October, 2003. Donna, an artist with an artist’s passion for life, was both an accomplished jewelry designer and avid gardener who delighted in creating beauty. To honor and celebrate her artistic gifts, a scholarship was established in her name and the first recipients selected were from the class of  2005. In June 2011 For Art’s Sake proudly presented the Donna Sherman Scholarship at graduation to Bromfield senior Imogen Rooney who will be studying fashion design at  the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) in the fall. Her art teachers unanimously recommended Imogen for her strong work ethic, discipline and dedication to her art while demonstrating her unique voice through her work.  Studying art at school and designing clothing at home provided an outlet for personal expression that helped her through difficult challenges during her Bromfield years. As a result her expression comes from a rich and authentic place. Imogen has remained true to herself and her own style throughout her years at Bromfield. In her senior year working with a new teacher, Mr. Thomas Linville, she has worked hard to challenge herself, demonstrating an openness to explore new areas in a thorough and thoughtful manner while laying the groundwork for a strong foundation in what will surely be a promising design career. Adventurous, authentic, quiet, independent, and dedicated are adjectives that best describe the manner in which she approaches the artistic process. Her ability to express herself and describe her work and process is especially thoughtful, touching, and honest. Often wearing her own creations she is a walking piece of art. It would be no surprise to her teachers and those that know her if she goes on to make her mark in the fashion world. We all look forward to seeing her develop her skills and talents next year and in the years to come. Congratulates Imogen!
