October 19, 2011 Meeting at the Old Library in Harvard, MA:On View the Wild Apples Exhibition.
Members present accepted the following requests:
Sharon Chandler from the Bromfield School has requested support from FAS in promoting the National Art Honor Society Handmade Craft Fair to held at school the third week of November.
Sharon also requested support in mounting a Senior Student Art Show in March 2012 as part of a teaching module on how to select and present work for exhibition.
Pam Cochrane will follow up with Sharon on more details and request space at the Old Library for the Spring Exhibition.
Tom Linville from the Bromfield School requested funds to purchase additional display rods and hooks for the school gallery area to enhance the current system donated to the school by FAS in 2009. The request was granted in the amount of $342.
Melissa Yahia reported on FAS's invitation to the Harvard Elementary School and Harvard Public Library to bring Caldecott Winner Beth Krommes to Harvard. Through discussions with the 3rd Grade Teachers, the Children's Librarian at the Library, and Beth a visit has been arranged for November 14th, 2011. Beth will meet with the individual 3rd Grade classes to share her award winning story and new release, part of the Caldecott Winners school curriculum. After school a program will be offered at the Library for the public, book signing and sale will also be included. FAS has submitted a grant to the Harvard Cultural Council to offset the $1000 professional fee and additional money for art supplies to augment the program.
Bob Hubert presented an update on his Towners photography project sponsored by FAS. The portrait project will run through out the year. Look for a full description on the events page. Bob has set up a Towners Face Book Page for the community to follow and contribute to the project. Visit harvard-towners facebook page.
Next Artists of the Month are Charles Kronauer followed by Lee Su. Charles will be in the Live gallery at the general store as well. In December the FAS wall will feature the work of Beth Krommes and photos from her visit. In January Lee Su will be featured in the Live Gallery space.
Four new members joined FAS in September.
