Linda Hoffman studied art and theatre in Paris, France. She received a fine arts degree from Bryn Mawr College and then was awarded a Watson Traveling Fellowship to train with a Noh Theater actor in Kyoto, Japan. Inspired by the poetry and beauty of traditional Japanese arts, Hoffman began an exploration of narrative sculpture incorporating language, natural fibers, wood, stone, and found objects. You may have seen her exhibit, A Circus Comes to Fruitlands,at the Fruitlands Museum in 2004, with twenty four sculptures using old agricultural tools to create circus performers.
Hoffman's artwork includes indoor and outdoor sculpture, public installations, digital prints and the Fine Art letterpress book, Winter Air. Her work is in the collections of the Boston Public Library, the Pierpont Morgan Library, New York, the Hechinger Tool Collection, Washington, DC., Harvard University and the Acton Arboretum.Linda is a the founding editor of Wild Apples, a an exquisite journal of nature,art, and inquiry available in stores and at www.wildapples.org.
This fall, visitors to her Harvard farm on Eldridge Road, can pick organically certified apples and raspberries as well as see a giant tortoise made of field stones, the Juggler made from an old cultivator and other sculpture.
